Privacy Policy

Last Updated: June 2026

Tidenote is built entirely around honest reflection. We cannot expect you to be honest with an app unless you fully trust where that data goes. Our privacy philosophy is simple: your entries are private by default, no one reads them but you, and your mood is never a score for someone else’s screen.

1. The data we collect

We collect only what is strictly necessary to make Tidenote work for you:

  • Journal Entries: The mood selections, tags, and short contextual answers you provide during morning and evening check-ins.
  • Account Information: Your email address if you choose to sign up for an account (local guest mode does not require an email).
  • Device Basics: Standard telemetry strictly for delivering push notifications (like your preferred timezone for reminders) and ensuring the app doesn’t crash.

2. How AI interacts with your data

Tidenote uses artificial intelligence to generate your weekly insights and monthly Wrapped recaps. Here is exactly how that works:

  • We pass your recent journal entries to our AI partners (e.g., OpenAI or Anthropic) via secured, enterprise-grade APIs to look for correlations and patterns.
  • Your data is never used to train their global models. This is enforced by our strict API agreements with these providers.
  • The AI is instructed to act only as an observer of your patterns. It does not store your entries permanently, nor does it share them publicly.

3. We do not sell your data

We do not sell your journal entries, email, or usage metadata to data brokers, advertisers, or any third party. Tidenote is funded directly by its users through the Tidenote+ subscription. If you are not paying us, you are still not the product.

4. Social features and sharing

By design, Tidenote has no built-in social network, friend lists, or leaderboards. No one can search for your profile or view your streak. The only way another human sees your data is if you actively choose to screenshot or share a Tide Wrapped card yourself.

5. Deletion and Export

You own your history. You can export a full copy of your journal data at any time from the Settings menu. You can also permanently delete your account and all associated journal entries with one tap. Deletion is hard and irreversible.

6. Security and Infrastructure

Your data is encrypted in transit using standard TLS and encrypted at rest by our database provider (Supabase, which uses AES-256). We enforce strict Row Level Security (RLS) rules, meaning the database mathematically rejects any request for your journal entries that does not originate from your securely authenticated session.

7. Changes to this policy

If we fundamentally change how we handle your data, we will not bury it in a silent update. We will notify you directly via the email associated with your account or through a prominent notice in the app before the changes take effect.

If you have any specific questions about how your data is handled, you can reach us at hello@tidenote.co.
